Our Facial Serum is baaaaaaaack!

We are so happy to let you in on the news that our Facial Serum is back! (and hopefully here to stay!) So here is the long story made short. Our bottle supplier discontinued the bottles that we were using (and loved!). So, we started a mission to find our new bottles! We tested many, many of them, all coming back with some sort of issue or another. Until these. These (finally!) passed the test! And we might just say that we are in love all over again! So, I hope you love them, too!

A little bit about our Facial Serum! We wanted to create a facial moisturizer that worked for almost any skin type and that was packed with nourishing and beneficial skin oils. And this sure is it! We formulated this serum years ago already, and it still is one of our favorite (and customer fave) products to date. I personally use it on the regular (when I'm not testing new products that is, lol)!

Its highlighted oils are Jojoba and Almond! Jojoba is such a beautiful oil. It comes from the simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) plant. This is a shrub-like plant that grows in warmer climates. Jojoba oil makes an amazing skin oil because it  is structurally and chemically very similar to human sebum. Almond helps with absorption. It is such a soothing oil that really helps with so many skin issues. It also has a light nutty aroma, making it very pleasant.

Other oils in our Facial Serum are Rosehip Seed Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, and Tamanu Oils. These all pack a high nutrient punch, aiding in added moisture, slowing down the aging process, and evening skin tone and texture. We also add in our beautiful essential oil blend of rose, frankincense, lavender, and clary sage.

If you haven't tried our Facial Serum yet, I know your skin will thank you when you do! Not only do I want you to try it and have confidence you will love it, I also appreciate you being here and reading this! So, to get a free sample of our Facial Serum with your order, add in the note at checkout that you read this blog and would like this special! I will leave it open and available until the end of May.

If you want to check out our Facial Serum, you can do that here.

What product should we feature next? Let us know!

Until next time,
Nicole

Fun recipes that taste good and just might help your skin at the same time!

What we eat has just as much of an impact on our skin as our skin care products we put on top of our skin. Crazy, huh? This is why overall health is so, so important. I wanted to share some fun recipes with you all, that can also help with your skin health! I hope you enjoy them!

     Infused Waters!
I am a huge water drinker. It is my preferred drink, second to coffee of course. And water is so important for clear, supple skin! Keeping our bodies, and therefore our skin, hydrated is key to health! Without proper hydration, we can lose elasticity, bounce, and it can cause breakouts. No bueno! So, not only will these recipes keep you hydrated, they are super yummy, but they also include some amazing additions that bring nutrients that can aid in your skins health! Win-win-win!

Start with finding a good bottle or jar. I have a bottle made just for fruit infused water. It has a little compartment that holds the fruits etc so they aren’t floating in your water and it makes drinking it easier. So you can totally order one of those. Or just use a mason jar! Really, anything works. If it works for you, it’s perfect!

Water. Make sure you are drinking quality water. I highly suggest getting a filter of your choosing if you are only drinking tap water, especially in the city. If you prefer bottled water, please refill your containers whenever possible and reuse. Less plastic use and waste, people! I grew up on well water, it is my personal fave, so if your well gives you good water, I’m all for that as well!

Additives. These are the kind of additives I love! And you can put your own creative abilities in your water! Have fun and play with combos. Some suggested fruits I love are blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, watermelon, oranges, lemons, limes, or grapefruit. You can seriously use any of your faves, but these are mine! Some herbs I love are basil, lavender, mint, rosemary, and ginger root! Another great one is cucumber!

Some great combos (just to give you ideas and a place to start if this is new to you!):  - Rosemary & Grapefruit - Lemon & Blueberry - Blueberries & Basil - Watermelon & Mint - Orange & Ginger - Strawberries, Mint, & Basil - Raspberries, Cucumbers, & Mint - Lemon & Lavender

Another fave of mine, for many reasons, is juicing. You will need a juicer for this, but you can get one pretty cheap, and it will be well worth your investment if you love fresh juice!
Juicing is so great because you get all of the good stuff from each fruit or veggie, and a juicer makes it so easy to do so. Just properly clean each item, and toss it in. Some you have to cut smaller to fit in the shoot, depending on the juicer you have, but you don’t need to peel or cut perfectly in most cases. One note- any fruit with a rind (lemons, limes, oranges), you DO want to take off the rind or you will get a very bitter taste added to your juice. Trust me, you don’t want this (ask me how I know)! Otherwise, it’s pretty much chop, toss, and go!

I tend to not have a ton of time to meal prep on the regular. Even when I plan this, juicing isn’t always a priority with limited time available. I needed to figure out a way around this. Eating healthy is a priority for me, so I needed to figure something out here. I learned that you can juice and store it in a large mason jar. Then, before I want to drink some, I just shake really well, and pour! Fresh juice on the double! So, I can just juice (and clean the juicer, let’s be honest, no one likes this task) once a week or so. Most blends I have made so far have held up really well for the week. So, I hope that is helpful for you as well!

Another thing is organic. When you are juicing, you are breaking down every little bit of the fruit or veggie. It is very important to purchase these as organic. While I think most of the foods we buy should be organic, I know that is not always reality. Some fruits and veggies we can buy non-organic if needed, if they have an outer layer that we don’t eat, for example. Produce we eat in its entirety should always be organic. Pesticides are not our friends. So, please keep this in mind when you are shopping, for juicing and otherwise.

Here are some combos that are great, especially for the benefits it can bring to our skin health!

Green Juice- great for overall skin health
-1 peeled lemon
-1 green apple
-1 cucumber
-5 celery stalks
-handful of kale (or spinach will work as well)

Golden Juice- great for glowy skin
-1 cup fresh pineapple
-1 peeled lemon
-1 piece ginger (about ½”)
-1 peeled orange
-handful of fresh mint (optional- it just adds that special taste note)

Red Juice- a  mild skin detox
-2 raw beets
-3 carrots
-1 red apple
-1 piece of ginger (about ½”)

Toss any combo into your juicer and juice as you would normally. Adjust the quantities based on how much juice you want to make. Each of these make approx 1 serving.

Chia seeds are high in antioxidants, making them a super food of sorts. And they make a darn good pudding!

This is the recipe that I have perfected over time. It makes for a great, nutrient-packed breakfast or snack.

     ¼ cup organic chia seeds
¾ cup almond milk (or milk of choice)
    Splash of real maple syrup
    Splash of real vanilla extract

Stir and put in the fridge for a few hours or overnight. You want to mix or stir it at least once during that time to help it “gel”. Then enjoy! You can eat as is, or top with your favorite berries (fresh or thawed from frozen), cacao nibs, hemp seeds, cinnamon, granola, spirulina powder, sweeteners (maple syrup, honey, or agave). The options are endless, but these are amazing and packed with skin-loving nutrients!

You will not regret giving atleast one of these a try! Let us know which you try and what you think! Post and tag us on social media! @herbesque.
